Are you concerned about the rise of ISIS and growing extremism in our societies, the protests of extreme-nationalist groups against refugees in Germany, the unjust victims during the Gaza war in 2014 and the police violence against African Americans in the U.S.?
Do you believe that polarization and tensions are rising globally to an alarming level, due to an increasing emphasis on the differences between cultures and religions?
Do you think that the new generation should stand up against discrimination and exclusionism, and build bridges between cultures and religions?
Are you convinced that an international movement of youth promoting justice, equality and intercultural dialogue needs to strengthen and grow in order to create a future for a society based on mutual respect?
Who are we?
Horizons is an international youth movement promoting global justice, equality and intercultural understanding.
We believe there is an urgent need to build bridges between cultures, nations and religions, and share beliefs and knowledge. Instead of turning to nationalism and exclusionism, instead of underlining the differences between our cultures, we embrace the view that we should look for similarities to understand each other. When having a dialogue with other cultures and individuals, we have a chance to learn more about the world and about our own identities. Horizons aims to find a common ground to encourage citizens to interact with each other and to create a future for a society based on mutual respect.
Through multiple projects, Horizons activates youth and provides youth with a set of tools to promote justice and equality in their own social environment. We at Horizons believe that youth are capable of changing the world. We are the future leaders and we are the key figures to make or break our future. We believe that youth, more than anyone, have the power to shift paradigms and inspire society to change for the better.
By donating, what will you be contributing to?
Horizons is a not for profit organization run and governed by energetic volunteers who believe in our mission. As we have a tight budget, we aim to keep costs low while still being able to sustain the quality of our ambitious projects. At the moment we have 40 volunteers involved with three projects we are working on; Agents of Change Conference, Campus Events and the High School Project. In 2014 we organized a study trip to Palestine. During the trip a documentary was made which was premiered in Amsterdam in July 2015.
Coming November 2015, we will organize another study trip to Palestine during which the participants will engage in dialogue with youth from the Middle East. The trip will prepare the participants for working with Horizons in the next academic year 2015 – 2016. We are raising money to cover the costs of this life-changing experience, and to ensure the continuity and expansion of our important projects.
By supporting Horizons, you support a new movement that provides an alternative for youth from a wide range of ethnicities and backgrounds to speak out against exclusionism and extremism. With your support, we can speak out louder, strengthen the quality of our projects and reach out to more citizens and policy makers.
